Students' Comparison or Contrast Essays - Models

The Comparison or Contrast essays below are all written by former students both in the US and Mexico. I'd like to give a hearty "thanks" to these students, first, for being such great students, second, for writing excellent essays and, third, for allowing me to publish them here.

I must comment about the first essay on this page, Cows and Whales . which was by a student from Japan. My initial reaction was a questioning What? . but when I read the essay, I could see a cultural aspect of Japan that I had not seen before, and then I asked myself, "Why not consider a contrast between cows and whales?" It's eye-opening to see the world through the eyes of another culture. I like the essays on this page!

Please note that these essays are organized. In each case, the writer lined up his/her main points and supporting details and presented them clearly and concisely. Note, too, that some essays contain point-by-point organization while other essays contain block organization.
